This 2018 Panini Green Kaboom 1/1 sold Saturday through @FanaticsCollect, setting a new all time record for any Rosen card. The previous high was $5,268 in 2019, so this sale came in at nearly 5x that mark. Rosen was drafted 10th overall in 2018 and played 24 NFL games, which makes the price even more notable. But after some more digging, it appears this sale is more about the insert/card rather than the player featured in it. Kaboom is one of the hobby’s most iconic modern sets, and the green versions are 1/1s. The buyer is reportedly building the full 2018 Green 1/1 run. This was his 25th add to his collection, and he reportedly also bought the 2021 Tom Brady Green Kaboom 1/1 for $660K.

A holo swirl is the small spiral pattern found in many holographic cards. Because the holo foil sheet was cut randomly, every copy has a different swirl position. That randomness is what makes certain placements more desirable to collectors. Placement matters. A swirl that interacts with the Pokémon or the attack, or sits cleanly within the artwork, will usually get more attention than one lost in the background or cut off at the edge. Even two of the exact same cards in the same grade can have very different demand simply because of swirl placement. Make sure to check those holos a little closer...

The Gold Metal Pikachu promo from the 2021 Celebrations set was released for Pokémon’s 25th anniversary and only came in the Ultra Premium Collection.
